The Amheida project was launched at Columbia University in 2000 with a grant from the Academic Quality Fund (AQF). The AQF was established in 1997-98 to promote important new academic initiatives that cross traditional school and disciplinary boundaries. The Office of the Vice President for Arts and Sciences, Columbia University Libraries, and the Stanwood Cockey Lodge Foundation of the Department of Classics, Columbia Univesity have also generously supported the excavations from 2004 to 2008.
